Bicycling Baja California: A complete Tour guide Tijuana - La Paz

Welcome to my tour bike guide for riding the Baja Peninsula on your bicycle! This side will provide you with all the required information to have a safe and comfortable ride (well, to be honest: it won't be really comfortable :) )

Stage 1: Tijuana - Ensenada - 110 km

A challenging stage, not because of the elevation profile, but because of Tijuana. Riding in the chaos of this city can be psychologically demanding and you have to pay attention all time to get out of this city safe and sound.

Stage 2: Ensenada - San Vicente - 82 km

The most challenging part of this stage is probably the traffic getting out of Ensenada and one bigger climb of about 5km at the end of the stage. Be aware of possible detours as there is a lot contraction work going on in this section.

Stage 3: San Vicente - San Quintin - 105 km

A quite easy stage along the Pacific Ocean. With the right wind and the right mood, miles will fly by without even noticing it.

Stage 4: San Quintin - Loncheria 103 - 105km

This stage will lead you into the desert for the first time. Make sure to have enough water with you and enjoy this first introduction of the landscape that you will see much more in the next days! The 100 km from San Quintin to Loncheria 103 can be really challenging due to several climbs in the second part of the day.

Stage 5: Loncheria 103 - Cataviña - 80km

A very difficult stage due to many minor and mayor climbs. Don't expect to make fast progress the mountains and the beautiful nature will prevent you from doing so! You might wanna stop again and again in order to take pictures!

Stage 6: Cataviña - Desert - ca.80km

A beautiful stage with many climbs but a rewarding landscape. Enjoy the desert but make also sure to have enough water supply.

Stage 7: Desert - Rosarito Nuevo - ca.80km

This stage will mark the change of mountain terrain with cold(er) temperatures to warmer flat parts of Baja California. A rather easy stage with only moderate climbs and usually good winds.

Stage 8: Rosarito Nuevo - Guerrero Negro - 80km

One of the easiest stages of the Baja Tour will give you much time to enjoy the nature, take some pictures and get ready for the next part of the desert.

Stage 9: Guerrero Negro - Vizcaino - 80km

This is probably the easiest stage regarding elevation profile and riding conditions. If you feel good and get an early start, you can easily combine this stage with the next one and get it done in one day.

Stage 10: Vizcaino - San Ignacio - 70km

Another rather easy stage with an incredibly rewarding final. Enjoy the ride through the dry desert, because what you will find at your today's destination will blow your mind.

Stage 11: San Ignacio - Santa Rosalía - 75km

After two relaxed days, this stage will be more challenging. Three climbs and usually strong headwinds  are the obstacles that have to be overcome on that part. Just before the end, you will ride down the famous Sierrra del Infierno!

Stage 12: Santa Rosalía - El Coyote - 90km

A decent stage with 3 - 4 climbs, but also a nice middle part with usually good tailwind. This stage will bring you to a pretty undiscovered beach!

Stage 13: El Coyote - Ligui - 155km

A challenging long stage with many ups and downs. But also predestinated for splitting it up into two parts and camp at the end of the Bahia de Concepción.

Stage 14: Ligui - Ciudad Constitucion - 118km

One of the most challenging stages of the whole Baja tour with the biggest mountain of the entire trip. Make sure to have good legs on this day! ;) The second part of the day will be quite boring regarding the farmland you will ride through compared to the beautiful scenery of the last days.

Stage 15: Ciudad Constitución - El Cien - 110km

Another easy, because flat stage, as long as there is no headwind waiting for you. After riding through yet another morning through farmland you will be back into the desert before arriving in El Cien.

Stage 16: El Cien - La Paz - 100km

The last stage of your Baja trip, if you decide to cross the Bay to get to the Mainland. It looks easier as it is as you will face rolling hills all day long. And yet again: the wind can really make a difference today!
